Hello fellow budget hunters,
Recently, I have been back to Bristol for the first time in many years, it is a city I love almost as much as Cardiff. We used to come here all the time when we were younger and it still feels the same. Bristol is known as the fun city, it is very indie and just has a very comfortable feel.
So I decided to tell you 6 reasons you need to visit Bristol!
1. The People are friendly
It sounds really weird, but the people of the UK apart from London are very friendly. Bristol is one of the friendliest places I have ever been, on one afternoon strolling around Cabot circus and Harbourside I had so many people ask if I needed help with directions, say hi to me and just generally chat. It is like being in a small village, but on a large scale!
2. It is so pretty
It is a great city to take awesome pictures in, there are so many cool places to see. Bristol is very instagram worthy and perfect for getting the cutest pictures!
3. There’s so many things to do
We always used to be members of a museum place called @ Bristol, but I now think it is called “We the curious”. I think it is a science museum, where kids can explore the world through play.
There is also still the Victorian Zoo, which has been extended and is now a lot bigger, but is a great day out. We were members for years and I do have many fond memories of that zoo. When I looked them up, you can get tickets for as low as £11 now in off peak seasons.
There is also an amazing aquarium in one of the old buildings from @ Bristol. We have been there a few times and still have some family jokes about stinger rays.
4. Street Art
The home of Banksy. Not just Banksy though, almost everywhere has street art and it just adds to the chilled out city.
You can do a lot of walking tours to see all of the art. But there is also so many statues.
Definitely worth a walk around and keep your eyes peeled.
5. The food
As a very independent city, there are so many cool places to eat.
I love eating in independent places and I have found a couple through recommendations.
I have planned a few foodie posts about the places I’ve been, so keep your eyes peeled.
6. The culture
There’s so much history in this city. There’s just so much going on from food festivals, to rowing boats, to just street performers and buskers.
There’s something so welcoming about Bristol and I would be happy to call this place home.
I love Bristol, I think that is obvious. But I think it is somewhere that everyone should visit.
They have so many things on over the year, my favourite being the balloon festival. It is just the most amazing thing to watch and I would love to see it this year !
I also love the suspension bridge, just looking at the architecture. I spent a good 5 minutes trying to work out some layouts of churches and old facades, and how they look now since being restored.
I hope these pictures have done the city justice and persuaded you to visit the cosmopolitan city that is Bristol. It is the best English city.
Until next time,
The Great Ambini

Great post- i haven’t actually heard of this city, looks like a place I need to go!!
I had no idea Bristol was the home of Banksy! Will have to go on my bucket list now 🙂
I had no idea Bristol is cool! I’ve always opted to go northwards instead of London (which is heresy for a Malaysian) but it never occurred to me to go left!
I went to Bristol for the first time a couple of years ago and was so impressed. The UK’s big up and coming city! Love the indie and artistic vibe there. Thanks for sharing!
I haven’t been to Bristol for ages and it looks like things have changed a bit. I would love to explore the street art scene and those statues of the dogs are really cute.
I’ve never been to Bristol but from your story I think it’s a place worth visiting and admiring.
Bristol is definitely on my list, I’ve promised myself to go and explore the UK more (I’ve moved to London 5 years ago and the time has really flown!), you are right about the friendliness of people (in London instead everyone is so close inside his own daily routine, there’s not much reaching out)… I will definitely look for local independent food places (one of things I love to do the most when I’m travelling!), thank you for your post and keep up the good work on your blog, I’ll follow it 🙂
I haven’t been to Bristol, just passed through, but it looks very pretty! I love the street art too, especially the little doggies 🙂
And Bristol’s also where Skins one of my favorite shows is set. Another reason- the show’s always made me want to visit as well
I’ve been to Bristol once for work and I was surprised that this city is so famous for its Banksy street art – thought this was really cool and unique for one of the “smaller” cities in the UK. Nice post on what to do there!
Ooohhh.. Pretty cool reasons to visit Bristol! Personally, I think the people (and how welcoming and friendly they are to tourists) is an important factor that I like to consider when I visit a new place (city/ town) and of course the pretty places to see!
The museum sounds pretty great for kids to explore.. So good to know it’s a family-friendly place!
I had no idea about Bristol being this great. Thanks for sharing these wonderful reasons to visit such a beautiful place.
Great post. I really like the picture of all of the locks. Our family would absolutely love visiting the science museum, zoo, and aquarium. The street art looks fun. My daughter would flip over those dog statues.
I really need to give Bristol another chance. I went there a lot for work and my client was painful so never took the time to stay and visit!
I loved Bristol when I went there, the street art, the padlocks, all your photos brought back some great memories
What a lovely post. I’m guilty of exploring the rest of the world before I’ve actually visited many places around the UK, and Bristol has always been on the list. Hopefully one day I’ll make it a priority!
I’m from Nottingham and I still haven’t visited! This has really inspired me thanks!! Loving the blog
I agree, there a quite a few reasons to visit Bristol – the street art certainly being one of the most important ones. I actually went there for Banksy – and was just blown away by all the other stuff, too. Another interesting thing is how many pop bands are from there – there must be something in the water that makes people just so creative there.
I blog often and I genuinely thank you for your content.
