The Guinness Factory Tour
Hello fellow budget hunters,
This is a post all about our trip around the Guinness Factory tour. We went back in December 2016, before I started blogging and I found the photos again so thought I would explain about the tour.
This was one of the things I wanted to spend money on while I was in Dublin. My Dad works in the alcohol trade and I had visited many different Cognac tours. I wanted to see the Guinness Tour and understand more about how it is made.
Price
We paid 14 euros at the time for the 9.30am slot into the Factory tour. It went up to 17 euros for later entry, but we are students so early drinking is normal!!
I have checked the 2018 price and it is now 17,50 euro for early trips. Then online price is 20 euros now, with on the day tickets being 25 euros.
The Guinness Factory Tour
The building is in the shape of a pint glass which made me smile a lot upon arrival.
We arrived and went straight through the barriers. It is a tour that you can browse at your own leisure, unlike the group tour I had assumed. We could walk around the different sections of the process in making guinness on the lower floors. There was even a waterfall at one point.
You also get to see the famous lease under the glass. The lease was signed for 9000 years, so is preserved under glass in the entrance.
You then got to try small glasses of guinness in the tasting room, where there was a lot of flavoured steams and it was a great sensory experience.
The next section was Guinness adverts. This is the famous sight of the fish on a bicycle and the different sorts of adverts over the years. I found this part so interesting, it was like walking through time.
The Guinness
Once you get up to the 3rd floor, there is a pub where you can pour your own pint and get a certificate. When we got up there, the queue was super long so we decided to go up to the 5th floor viewing deck to get our pint. From the top you can see all across Dublin, but it was tricky to get a seat for a while.
Although I am not the biggest fan of Guinness, I did really enjoy the Guinness Factory Tour. It was a really fun few hours, with lots of great hands on activities.
We spent about 3 hours there, before we went off exploring other places in Dublin.
I would advise everyone to go on this tour if you are in Dublin. It won’t disappoint and is a must do.
Until next time,
The Great Ambini

I also wrote these posts about Ireland: –
This is one tour that I decided not to do when I was in Ireland. I don’t necessarily regret it because I was on a tight budget, but it does look so fun! Soooo I hope I can get back someday and experience it like you did!
I love that you can explore at your own pace – I am always fascinated by the most random, mundane things, and then the “OH WOW!” facts that typical tour guides share just breeze right in my ears and back out!
I’m not a drinker, but my husband loves beer so we always love touring breweries…I can’t say we would visit Guinness when we go to Ireland, but your article makes it sound more fun than it sounded originally, so maybe we should give it a shot. 🙂
I visited Dublin twice, but always for too short a time to spend inside a museum (I love wandering the streets of the cities and if I have to be indoors it’s only for food). Yet, I intend on going back to actually experience the Guinness brewery as it is one of my favourite beers and brands and I think it would be cool to experience. The high price is a bit off-putting though…
Looks like a fun tour to do when visiting the city, and Guinness is such an iconic brand, one of the first foods or drinks people think of when they talk about Ireland!!
I used to love Guinness beer but when I turned vegetarian I found out that the beer had animals ingredients on it! However, few years ago I was told that they removed anything related to animals so now that I can enjoy it again I will definitely visit this place when on Ireland! Thanks for posting!
Guinness factory is my 1 of favorite museums. Did get Guinness certificate?
It’s amazing how similar the processes for making different alcohol can be, like Guinness or cognac. You did a great job of framing your pictures for the blog even before you were blogging. I keep going through my old trip photo and trying to see if I can pull a piece together. Nothing I took back then functions the way I want it to.
Great detail ..informative article! Don’t like Guinness myself though !!
This was one of my favourite experiences in Dublin! I loved the free beer at the top overlooking the city! A def must do for all 🙂
Interesting. So the 9,000-year lease ends in the Year 10769, a long time from now!!! Good because Guinness is one good beer!
This tour is definitely high on the list of super touristy things to do in Ireland. I would probably skip it and opt for a locals bar that serves Guinnes but glad you had a fun time.
I completely understand. I normally don’t go for touristy places, but I was curious to how they made it and it was inside from the rain!
I love the timing of your article. I am writing about my big trip to Europe and Ireland many years ago and how I missed the brewery tour in Dublin Strangely I did get to the breweries in Copenhagen and Amsterdam. I am glad to read your blog now and as I am planning my vacation back to the UK and Ireland this summer and I won’t miss it this time around.

Guinness is my favorite beer. If I go to Dublin I’ll have to take this tour. Thank you for sharing.
I’ve not been to Dublin. But when I do, this is going to be a must! You had me at “Guinness Factory Tour!”
A 9000 year lease, genius!! I think that even a non beer drinker would enjoy and experience like this, Guinness is so iconic and doing this in Dublin would make it a double treat. I would love to take the tour and my husband would be in heaven for sure!. And it is very reasonably priced.
I love that the building looks like a pint glass! That’s so cool. Sounds like a good way to spend a couple of hours 🙂 that section with all the old advertisements sounds really neat too! That’s great that at the end of the tour you get that nice view over all of Dublin!
I went to Ireland about 1 1/2 years ago, and the Guinness storehouse tour is the first thing we did when we got there. Thanks for bringing back some great memories. Guinness definitely tastes better in Ireland!
That beer looks so good! It’s also nice that you can explore around freely.
Oh. Visiting this place was my dream for quite a long time. But now I quit alcohol… 3 years already. So… kinda don’t know. It still looks cool.
Congratulations 3 years is a long time! There’s plenty more to see in Dublin though 🙂
Paul loves Guinness, I am not such a fan. Does look a great tour though!
